I have just been reading this "string" of messages about your Bush family. So far I don't have any southern branches, but a little "cousinly" encouragement! You are doing great so far, just don't take on too much too fast! Its so easy in the beginning you just want to gobble it all up. Better to go a little slower, the old adage of genealogy is right- work back from what you know! If you find things that seem to relate two or three generations back, make notes or zeroxes, and file them away until you get to that part of the tree! And never assume that others are better researchers or that it is ever all done. I wish I had a nickel for every conflicting bit of data from "official" sources or from the person's own hand- people make mistakes and sometimes they fib a little. Check it all out for yourself! As far as citation and documentation is concerned, your library probably has your old High School English book which teaches you haw to write a footnote, citation, etc. use the formats there. I have also found that for "shorthand" when working in the library, etc. I use different colored pens from the art store. When I begin a new book, I write the master citation for it in the color I will use for notes. That way I write it once and am done for the day! I sometimes use the same method for writing family sheets when I want to see how the evidence from several sources relates. Make a master key of the sources by color and enter each different spelling, date, fact, etc. in the color of the source it came from. Boy do the inconsistencies jump out at you that way! Any Way you are off to a good start, happy hunting!
