Granville and Merritt are living with their mother and grandmother in 1850 Champaign Co IL.

Check Newspaper abstracts online - "Our Constitution" 4 Dec 1858 (arrested for horse thieving) & 12 Feb 1859 (?re-arrested after escape?) -- a couple of articles indicate Granville got into a little trouble with the law. See also Champaign County Archives (Urbana Free Library); found guilty in April term 1859 and October term 1860.

1860 Census Index Champaign Co IL Merritt Busey 436 PO Urbana
1860 Census Index Champaign Co IL Granville Bussey 601 Urbana City

Merritt Busey married Emma Stateler on or about 9 Oct 1861 Champaign Co IL (statewide mg index, Champaign Co archives)

It appears that both Merritt Busey and Granville Busey had civil war service; if they had pension files you will likely find helpful family info there.

Merritt Busey b 1839 died 16 July 1868.

I think this may be Granville in the 1880 census:
