"Hi Scott,
Thanks for including me in your research. David Jones answered my e-mail. I oriented him to The Osborne tree staring with my first NJ ancestor Stephen Osborne baptized Ashford Kent England 1633 that the Grayson Co Va/ Hawkins Co TNOsbornes decend from. It seems clear that Richard Burton was married twice perhaps to a Pleasant lady first with Jane Burton , then John P. Burton b. 1758 as their issue. Then some time around 1762/3 to a second unknown lady who was the mother ofWilliam Burton, ? Lucinda m. Wm Martin, another Jane, and Charity. It seems pretty certain that Robert Burton was the nephew of John P. Burton --- he clearly was a local boy, and the only males there when he was born were William, John P. and maybe Richard. When the Burton girls went from NC to Va in 1792 to get married at the family church of some Osbornes, the only Burton they could have been staying with on NC side New River was John P. Burton. Not sure where Wm. Burton was at that time.
May you and yours have a Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year.
Charles O."
