We believe the following two individuals were the sons of James & Rebecca BURTON of Greenville Co., SC - Dunklin area. Both boys were named as "legatees" and were selling, along with their mother Rebecca, land in Greenville Co. 1840 - SC, Pickens Co., Pickens Dist. Benj. - 1M 30-40, 2M 5-10; 1F to 5, 2F 10-15, 1F 30-40 John - 1M 40-50, 2M 5-10, 2M 15-20; 3F to 5, 1F 5-10, 2F 10-15, 1F 20-30, 1F 40-50 Also listed: SHEAD, PULLIAM, LEE, RAMEY, BUTTS, WILLIAMS, COX, ROACH, & Jordan MOORE. One of their brothers may have been William C. BURTON who was born in SC, moved to Cobb Co., GA where Rebecca had settled after James died abt 1816. By 1870, Wm. C. had returned to SC - Oconee Co. and well known as the father of Francis Taylor BURTON whose DNA matches my Jeremiah BURTON. There is a "John" who shows up in Chattooga Co., GA. He fits very well into the family of James & Rebecca and names a daughter, Rebecca. Benjamin is listed in Cobb Co., GA as follows: 1860 - GA, Cobb Co., Big Shanty BURTON, Benj. 54, KY b: abt 1806 (SC?) Mary 52, SC Wm. 20, SC Nancy 17, GA B. F. 12, GA We believe this Benj. was b: SC and NOT KY. Son, William, is William C., b: abt 1840 SC and dies 1922 Cullman Co., AL. At this time, we know nothing about the other two Nancy or B. F. We also suspect there were older children. If you have been up against a brick wall and are curious about this information, please email me AND place your info on Genforum. We will try to help you with your research problems relating to BURTONS. Gerre Byrd ggengard@comcast.net Notify Administrator about this message?
