Clayton Tribune, (Rabun Co. GA) Thursday, March 2, 1944, Page 1:
“Gordon Burton, aged about 35 years, died Sunday night near Walhalla, S.C., in an automobile wreck in which the car he was riding in turned over and pinned him beneath. He was dead when the body was removed.
Gordon was a native of this county, the son of Jerry Burton and the late Mrs. Burton. He had been for a doctor for his wife and returning in a car driven by a neighbor when the accident occurred.
He leaves beside his wife, three children, his father and two brothers, Wiley and John, and one sister, Mrs. Ethel Frady.
The funeral was conducted from the local Baptist Church, Wednesday afternoon and burial in the local cemetery. R.E. Cannon was in charge of the funeral.”
