Clayton Tribune, (Rabun Co. GA) Thursday, April 14, 1932, Page 1:
“Mrs. Bertha Vickers Burton, age 39, wife of M.B. Burton, died Friday morning, April 8, at Angel’s Hospital in Franklin, N.C.
Mrs. Burton had been confined to her bed for two weeks and on Wednesday previous to her death was carried to Angel’s Hospital where she underwent an operation for a number of complications, which proved fatal and resulted in her death.
Mrs. Burton had been a member of the Baptist Church since childhood and was a true Christian, never once shirking her duty to her church, her home, nor as a devoted wife, mother and daughter.
She is survived by her husband, M.B. Burton; two children, Lowell and Mrs. Robert Payne; her aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Vickers, and one brother, Mr. Jerry Vickers of Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, besides a number of other relatives and a host of friends who will mourn the departure of this good woman.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 9, at the Clayton Baptist Church and interment was in the Clayton Cemetery. Rev. T.C. King of Clarkesville had charge of the services and he made mention of the fact that some 20 years ago he performed the marriage of Mrs. Burton and her husband. Rev. King was assisted by Rev. E.E. Keen and J.H. Cannon Co. undertakers.
The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community in the loss of this loved one.”
