That posting in BURTON DNA is incorrect. Below is what I have on William Burton (1735-1826) and Phoebe Douglas (1745-1824). They lived in Newberry Co, SC and this William Burton lived to 1826.

8/25/1769: William Burton received a land grant for 400 acres on Little Creek in the fork of the Broad and Saluda Rivers in Berkley Co, SC (Little Creek enters the Saluda River in Newberry Co near Hwy 395). Recorded in South Carolina Royal Land Grant Book 18, page 467.

2/5/1771: Precept (Entry)-David Davenport entered 200 acres in Craven Co, of waters of Little River, bounded north by William Burton, NE by Joseph Davenport, and by vacant land. Survey certified on 3/12/1771 by John Caldwell, DS. See Motes, page 110.

5/7/1771: Precept (Entry)-Joseph Davenport entered 175 acres in Craven Co on a branch of Little River called Rocky Creek, bounded NW by William Dodgeon and William Burton, west by Joseph Davenport, NE by Francis Davenport, and north by Joseph Campbell, See Motes, page 057.

8/12/1773: John Satterwhite received a land grant memorial for 500 acres on Mudlick Creek and Little River in Craven Co (this is in present-day Newberry Co about 5 miles NE of Town of Chappells), adjoining Benjamin Farrar, Robert Goudy, William Burton, Samuel Mason, Gilbert Gibson, Benjamin Burton, Josiah Burton. Recorded in South Carolina Memorials, 0030-002-0012-00366-03.

8/17/1773: Memorial (Grant)-To Joseph Davenport, 175 acres in Craven Co on a branch of Little River called Rocky Creek (located about 5-7 miles west of City of Newberry in present-day Newberry Co), bounded by William Dudgeon, William Burton, Joseph Davenport, Francis Davenport, and Joseph Campbell, See Motes, page 057.

5/1/1784: William Burton purchased from Mathew and Agatha Brooks, for 10 shillings, 200 acres in 96 District on a branch of the Saludy River called Beaverdam (Beaverdam Creek enters the Saluda River in Newberry Co near Hwy 395)., bounded by Gibson Jones, James Winston/Kinston, Thomas Brooks, north side of Beaverdam. Witnesses: David Ferrel Riley, William Burton, Gibson Burton. Recorded in Newberry Co, SC Deed Book A, page 409.

1786: Burton, William - we saw last Monday an old land grant from Gov. William Moultrie to William Burton made 1786. The land granted was in ninety-six district. The land in question lies in Newberry on Beaverdam Creek. The seal to the deed is a curiosity: it is made of wax, six inches in diameter, half an inch thick and is tied with a linen cord. On one side of the seal is a Palmetto tree and on the other is an individual, somewhat blurred and disfigured, which has the appearance of the Goddess of Liberty.

2/10/1786:: William Burton purchased from Gibson and Catherine Jones, for 100 pds, 200 acres that was originally in Bukly Co. Witnesses: George Goggins, Tabitha/Tithia Burton, William Burton, Gibson Burton. Recorded in Newberry Co, SC Deed Book A, page 413.

5/23/1789: William Goggans & Rachel, his wife of Newberry County to William Burton for L50 Sterling, 100 acres on the Beaverdam, surveyed originally for Benjamin Burton and granted 18 Aug 1776, recorded in Book O (or 40), page 22, granted to John Robinson and conveyed to William Goggans and Rachel his wife. William Goggans(Seal), Rachel Goggans(X)(Seal), WIT: Gibson Burton, James Burton, Feby Gibson(mark). Proved in Newberry County 23 June 1792 by the oath of Gibson Burton berfore Mercer Babb,J.P., recorded 10 Sept 1792. Recorded in Newberry Deed Book B, pages166-167,

1790: William Burton appears as head of a family in Newberry District, SC census, page 078. Enumerated are 3 males over 16, 4 males under 16 and 3 females plus 3 slaves.

Jul 1797: BURTON, William Sr. et al - Benj. LONG. BURTON is the Grantor; and LONG the Grantee. See Newberry Co, SC.

1800:

2/15/1803: In the will of Bartlett Satterwhite, of Newberry Co, it mentions "grandson Willis Satterwhite Glover to have 200 acres known as "Burton Tract", on both side of Mudlick Creek". Recorded in Newberry Co, SC Estates, Box 18, page 004.

1810: William Burton Sr. (M>45)) appears as head of a family in Newberry District, SC census, page 120B. Also enumerated are F>45, M16-26,F16-26,F10-16 plus 8 slaves.

1820: William Burton Sr. (M>45) appears as head of a family in Newberry District, SC census, page 124. Also enumerated are F>45 plus 17 slaves.

1826: Will of William Burton, signed 8/20/1823, was proved in April 1826.
Wife: Phoebe.
Children: Gibeon, William, Aaron, Cynthia(Towles), Phoebe(Reagan). Recorded in Newberry Co, SC Will Book L, page ???.
