Thanks for the reply, yes she and I have had some long conversations. I still find I have questions, although I'm through looking at Burtons for the time being as it is getting me no where..........but who is the JACOB BURTON who served in the REV WAR who signed up in NC? Nobody seems to have an answer for him. Yes I know about the Meriwether Co BURTONS because my direct line is from Meriwether Co GA through Jonathan D Braswell son of Valentine BRASWELL from MADISON co GA and before that Valentine was in SC. With Valentine Braswell having a Benjamin BURTON JR signed as witness with him in NEWBERRY SC and with VALENTINE BRASWELLS in the CHATHAM CO/ORNAGE co records in NC around 1760s AND with a SAMUEL and RICHARD BURTON also in the same court records and land records in Orange/Chatham CO NC records I think you have a branch of the BURTON family which may or may not be connected directly back to the VA JACOB BURTON, but certainly I think the CHATHAM CO NC to NEWBERRY/EDGEFIELD SC and then to MADISON CO and MERIWETHER CO GA could all be directly related. I know that NEWBERRY where my Valentine lived and the EDGEFIELD area where another Braswell family lived was just a short ferry boat ride across the Saluda River away from each other. So, although not proven, it's a possibility that both the Newberry/Edgefeild Braswells and Burtons are directly related to one another and they carried those relationships across the SAVANNAH River in GA's MAdison and Elbert Counties in GA. I know the BURTONs in ELBERT co GA lived right on the SAVANNAH RIVER I looked up their tax records and matched their land to the map. The OTHER Burton family, JACOB lived on HUBBARDS creek in MADISON co GA (cut from a part of ELBERT CO GA).

Another mystery to me is the JAMES M BURTON who's obit says he was born in GUILFORD NC....he is seen in the estate of a HAILE FAMILY...JOEL HAILE who married in WAKE CO NC. This same estate of JOEL HAILE has a SAMUEL BRASWELL in it and then his son JOSEPH BRASWELL signed as witness to the Will of HOSEA HAILE, son of JOEL HAILE...all of CLARKE CO GA where the JAMES M BURTON DIED (Clarke Co GA) who was born in GUILFORD CO NC....and GUILFORD Was cut from ROWAN and ORANGE counties in NC.

I have much, much more info, but for now I'm chasing down a couple of other surname leads, if you or anyone needs some of the info that I've gathered feel free to contact me I'm happy to share.

Kay
