In Reply to: William Burton (1763-1817) md Mary Smith (1775-1807) by Bob Burton in Gainesville, FL of 6881

I have these additional notes:

From "Old Spartanburg Dist Genealogy" Vol. III #1-4 1988: Minutes of the Court of General Sessions 1806-1808 page 42 The State vs. William Burton, indicted for Cheating - a true bill April 1808; page 41 The State vs. William Burton, indicted for forgery (outcome not given). One other item showed William was chosen to be on a jury in 1807.

In Will Book A, Spartanburg Co., SC wills, William Burton was given $5 by his father-in-law in 1815.

Data on the children's names came from Richard R. Dietz, 10512 Lower Azusa Rd., #162, El Monte, CA 91731-1209, 609 309-0764 <rdietz@greenheart.com>, Internet site http://www.greenheart.com/rdietz (no longer valid as of June 2004). This give the middle name of Carroll.
