1772: Per Burton Chronicles, he was at William and Mary College.

1780: George Penn was appointed guardian to William Burton

3/6/1780: Marriage of William Burton, bachelor, to Frances Penn, a spinster, is recorded in the Amhurst County, VA Marriage Records. Security: Edmund Wilcox. Wit: William Loving, George Penn.

1783: William Burton appears in tax digest of Amhurst Co, VA.

1787: Not listed in Bedford Co, VA Tax Lists A or B.

1789: William Burton appears in Bedford Co, VA Personal property List.

1800: William Burton appears in Bedford Co, VA Personal Property Tax List.

4/22/1805: Charles D. Jones (et al) sold to William Burton Sr, of Bedford Co, 35 acres in Bedford Co, part of tract formerly belonging to John Jones, decd, adjoining land of said Burton (William) Sr. Recorded in Bedford Co, VA Deed.

1810: William Burton appears as head of a family in Bedford Co, VA census, page 453. Enumerated are M2-0-2-0-0 and F1-0-1-0-0 plus 5 slaves.

1/7/1811: Death of William Burton is recorded in the bible record of his son Charles Burton.

1/15/1811: Inventory of the estate of William Burton was returned listing 18 slaves.

1811: Will of William Burton, dated 11/3/1810, was probated 2/25/1811. The will provides: "that his estate should be kept together until December 1824, and then to be divided among his sons and daughters, namely William Burton, Charles Burton, Caroline Martin, Philip Burton, and Howell Burton." Exec: son Edmund Burton and son-in-law James Martin. Wit: Bataille Harrison, William Douglas, Archibald Goff, Isaac Reynolds. Recorded in Bedford Co, VA Will Book D, pages 4, 69 and 126.

1820: Frances Burton (F>45) appears as head of a family in Northern District in Bedford Co, VA census, page 32A. Also enumerated are 2M16-18, M10-16.

1830: Frances Burton (F60-70) appears as head of a family in Bedford Co, VA census, page 157, Also enumerated are M20-30.
