1772-75: Per Burton Chronicles, he was a student at William and Mary College.
7/26/1777: Christopher Anthony, of Bedford Co, sold to Robert Burton, of Fluvanna Co, 200 acres in Bedford Co, adjoining the lands of Jefferson, Woodward and Rowland. Recorded in Bedford Co, VA Deed Book E, page 522.

1781: A marriage occurred in Granville Co, NC between a Mr. Robert Burton, of Bedford Co, VA and Mary Lewis. Is this Robert the son of Capt. William Burton? Reported in "Burton Families", Series I, page 142 (1972).
1787: Robert Burton, in District of Thomas Logwood, appears in Bedford Co, VA Tax List A as owning 13 blacks, 5 horses, and 14 cattle.
