Burt Family Genealogy Forum

I am looking for information on the family of Emma Allen Burt. She was my great-greatgrandmother but was not married to my -great-greatgrandfather - Nelson Stevens. It was during slavery that my g-grandfather Hayne was born. She later married Charles Burt and had several other children. In 1870 she lived in Gray Twp, Edgefield, SC (as did Nelson Stevens and his family). My grandfather was listed in the census as "Hain Burt" living with his mother and stepfather. In 1880 Emma lived in Pine Grove, Edgefield, SC,and in 1910 and 1920 lived in Saluda, Edgefield, SC. I could not locate her and her family in the 1900 census and she may have been deceased by 1930 since she was born in 1835. My Aunt Anna, Hayne's granddaughter, remembered her mother, Twedy, visiting Grandma Emma. Emma was very heavy set and had been bedridden for years. According to Aunt Anna, she looked white (she was described as a Mulatto in several of the censuses). Her children besides Hayne were: Anna, Ellen, Sophia, George, Frank, John, Margaret, Albert, Hiram and Minnie. In later years until her death she lived with Minnie. The whole family attended Lockhart Baptist Church in Saluda, SC. Emma and Charles Burt's graves are very near the church. So are Hayne and his wife Laura. 8 of Hayne's 10 children are buried in the cemetery. I know a lot about the Stevens but little about the Burts. and would like to know more. If you have any information on Emma Burt and her descendants, please contact me at: ghaudus@hotmail.com.
Thank you,
AJMitchell
