Hello All .. I have been trying to track down my great-great-grandparents, John Burt and his wife, Bridget Cody. John and Bridget were both born in Newfoundland (she was born in 1836 - this from her death certificate), and were married probably some time around 1860. From an Ontario Census, Bridget's parents were both born in Ireland. Bridget and John had a daughter, Elizabeth Burt, my great-grandmother, who born February 25, 1864 or 1865, either in Heart's Content or St. John's, Newfoundland. The family moved from Newfoundland around 1870 and Elizabeth was put into a convent in Montreal. Evidently, John was an engineer, and he and Bridget moved around while he was working. John must have died some time between 1870 and 1879 as Bridget subsequently married a Michael Dwyer (or O'Dwyer), also of Newfoundland. They were married in Fire Steel, Ontario on November 4, 1879 (this is from a marriage notice in the Harbour Grace Standard in January 1880.) Elizabeth subsequently married a Georges Onesime Philemon Clavet in Port Arthur, Ontario in 1884 and they had 6 children. She died in 1921 in Port Arthur. If anyone knows anything about these Cody's, Burts, and/or the Dwyer's, I would love to hear from you. Notify Administrator about this message?
