Burts in South Africa and Australia
Posted by: Barbara Benware Burt Date: November 02, 2001 at 15:01:03
  of 2139

My husband's grandfather Robert Burt was born circa 1874 in England or Scotland of Scottish coal-mining parents. He subsequently went out to fight in the Boer Wars in South Africa and stayed there, marrying and fathering four children.

Robert apparently had two brothers who went out to Australia. One was named Tom who settled in Sydney and the other was...my father-in-law thinks...George, who became a professor of mathematics at Melbourne University. I am hoping to connect with descendants of these two brothers who might be able to shed some light on the common Burt ancestors.

Any help appreciated. My email is bburt001@NYCAP.RR.COM

Barbara
