Yes, Melissa was enumerated twice in the 1860 census. And in the 1880 census her daughter Elizabeth(my great grandmother) was listed twice. She was listed with her parents in St Clair cty and also with her uncle, Edward Hebden in Echo twp, Antrim County Michigan. Siblings George and Marie wound up in Mill City Oregon, sister Ella died in Antrim County and oldest brother Edward died just 6 months after his father in 1882.

I would like to see the 1894 state census page if you can find it.

Was the Samuel Burris you referred to in Unadilla?
I am still trying to dig up some more on the family back there.

The History of Hancock New Hampshire gave a lot of background on the family of Orrin's first wife Persis Bacon(my 3gg).It tells how her parents Jeremiah and Betsey moved to Unadilla and lists under children "Persis, m Orin Burris; she d. in St. Clair county Mich., aged 62. Children, Malifa and Monroe."
