The following is in response to a posting on the Burris Forum

David,
Please forgive me for the delay in responding to your post on Genforum concerning the tracings of the Burris/Burrows etc lineage from Va to Tn to Ky and to all points of the compass. I would like to see the copies of the wills that you have found of the Burris/Burrows from those areas mentioned.

{Hi Rick, I recently found some info on the Burris/Burrus family and this involves Capt. William Bush FT. BOONE 1770s and his wife Frances Tandy Burris/Burrus. I am trying to prove a relationship to Isaiah Burris found 1800-1810 Clark CO KY and 1810 Clay CO KY by my Cope family. William Bush died 1815 Clark CO KY. This Bush & Burris family is tied to the Burris family of Bedford CO VA 1787. I think the Bedford CO VA Burris has ties to the Surry CO NC Burris families.
I found John, MARTIN, Thomas, William and Jacob Burris 1787-1810 Surry CO NC. Some of the Burris men are listed on wills in Surry CO NC including Martin Burris with John Allen 1800. The other surnames are Hanna, Fleming Hammock , Edwards and McKinney.}
David

I truly believe that the first Child of my Hutson Burrows, William Burrows in Hamilton County TN was named after Hutson's Father William. Hutson Burrows was born in NC in about 1787 according to his stated age of 73 in the 1860 Walker County GA Census. He died in Walker County. Don't hold me to this but because of the tradition of naming children after fathers and uncles, I think that a William Burrow(sp) Burris may be the father of Hutson because other naming of his first son and then the pattern of naming his sons that follows; William Burrows b. 1813 in Hamilton County Tn, Anthony Burrows b. 1816 in Hamilton County Tn, John Edward Burrows b.1824 in Hamilton County Tn (Hutson or Hudson also had at least 2 unnamed daughters also),LeRoy Burrows b. 1826 in Walker County GA, Henry G. Burrows b 1829 in Walker County Ga and then either Arthur or Andrew ( the 1850 and 1860 census has conflicting names but I do find and Andrew in later censuses that seen to match age wise). Also Hutson's grandson William Commodore Burrows also carried the tradition of using the same name on by naming one of his sons Wiley W. Burrows.*

I also believe that John Burrows was the father to James Edward Burrows b 1805 because of the fact that James Edward names his first son John.

And both James Edward and Hutson name their children the same names for their sons in both families Edward Burrows died in 1830 in Tn. He had listed his age in that census as 70 to 80 He was a witness to Anthony Burrows's will. He was also living in Tn in 1805 because his son James Edward was born in Tn. James
Edward named some of his sons, John Jackson Burrows b. 2/8/1825 in Hamilton County Tn, d.1837 believed in Walker County GA. Then James Edward had James Edward II b 1/24/1827 in Hamilton County. the next son he had was William Howard Burrows b. 1/22/1833 in Hamilton County, and then another son he named Anthony M. Burrows b. 5/30/1837 in Hamilton County Tn. Edward died in Hamilton County TN I believe.
So my theory is that William is the father to Hutson, and John Burrows is the father to James Edward b1805 and then, Anthony, Edward, Thomas, William, James and John are all brothers.

Does this make sense?

Rick Burrows
