I am interested in finding any one from Lecompte, Rapides Parish, Louisiana researching Eloise Polk Burrowes - b.1864/d. 1948, and about her husband, Harry Scovel Burrowes - b. 1869/ d. 1951. He was a breeder of cattle. They are buried in Willmer Cemetery. I have heard about a copy of his obituary and it said he raised cattle on Ashton Plantation? Interestingly enough, Ashton is a family name used in our family names. I am trying to find out how he emigrated to La. from Ohio, when he married Eloise Polk ( who is descended from Willaim Polk, of Ashton Plantation fame). and what their lives were like? http://www.lib.unc.edu/mss/inv/p/Polk,William It says in the above named abstract that Eloise Polk Burrowes was from Lecompte, Rapides Parish when she made the donation of papers to UNC. I guess the first place to start is to find out the obituaries of Eloise Polk Burrowes, and Harry S. Burrowes. Where can I get copies of their cemetery data, death certificates, and copies of wills? I am hoping this will help me find some additional clues. And, exactly how much land did they own of Ashton Plantation?. .......and last but , not least, another family piece of lore says that there was a book written about the history of Ashton Planation. Is this located in any library in your community? Thank you for any direction in my research. Michael Burrowes Safranek, Chicago, IL Notify Administrator about this message?
