Upton, G. The Devil and George Burroughs. London: Wordwright Publishers, 1997.

"... Nathaniel Burrough and Rebecca Stiles were married probably in England around 1649, and their only known child, George, was born about 1650, also probably in England. the family settled on the Patuxent River in Maryland in 1651/1652....

"Nathaniel Burroughs made his living as a travelling merchant and appears to have maintained dual residences in Massachusetts and Maryland.... [In 1667] the Maryland Provincial Court records show that Mr. Nathaniel Burrough of Roxbury in New England was given power of attorney over Robert Gibbs of Boston to recover debts due and owing Gibbs in Virginia and Maryland.

"In the records of the Roxbury Congregational Church it appears that, on November 29, 1674, Rebecca Burroughs 'was recommended and dismissed, she going for England and is advised to adjoin herself to some church there.'...

"It is likely that Nathaniel and Rebecca rejoined each other in Stepney [Middlesex County, England]....

"George Burroughs' uncle, John Style of Stepney, died [in 1685] and his will was proved during July and August 1686.... 'Lastly I give to my nephew George Burrough of New England, clerk, all my books and other estate whatsoever not before devised, which shall from time to time and in such manner as he and the said [estate overseer Seth] Powell shall desire, be consigned or remitted to him by my said executor [William Burrough of Staple Inn, London]...."
