I have so little that is documented beyond my GGGrandfather, Barclay Burrows(Barkley/Bartley Burris). As briefly as I can manage, here is info. I've found in my research:
*1777Rebeckah Burras m. Bowater Sumner in Surry County, North Carolina (Source:"Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Vol I, p.170
*1806 Bowater/Rebeckah Burras Sumner are granted certificates of membership into Quaker Monthly Meeting,Warren County,Ohio
*1 Sep 1827 Roland Burris was rcvd on cert into White Lick MM, Morgan County IN from Fall Creek MM in Ohio (Same source: Vol 6,p.22)
*(From the Family Files of the Morgan County IN Public Library, Martinsville IN)Roland Green Burrows b. 1812, Ohio, lived in Martinsville are ca.1823-1854, d.1865, Iowa
*(From "Counties of Morgan,et al, Indiana-Historical&Biographical")Early 1822,James Burris was elected a Justice of the Peace
*(Same source, p.332) A reference to Ester Burris, native of Ohio m. 1)John Mosier, native of North Carolina - son b.1844.
Could "Bowait" be a "Bowater"? Is "Roland" connected with "Rolla"?Is this Ester your Hester?'Tis a puzzlement!
I do not live in Indiana, but have done on-site research there - wish I could do more. I posted messages hoping someone would find a Barclay/Barkley/Bartley among their research that could tie in with my GGG. When the census records asked for info. on birthplaces of parents, he had stated "Unknown". A published biographical article stated he was "born in North Carolina and came to Ohio at an early age". I can theorize that there is a connection with Rebeckah Burras Sumner, but no proof.
