Hi, Diane...
Yes, his sister listed death dates for family members. She was Elizabeth Burriss McCroskey Epperson and was living in Morgan County, Alabama, when she wrote the letter (in 1872). As far as I can tell she lived there all of her life.
The death dates she listed were:
William F. Burriss___ber 7, 1844
HannahNovember 8, 1848
PollyAugust 4, 1852
MotherMarch 7, 1855
PapaMarch _8, 1867
She also mentions 2 living sisters:
"Sister Tempy still lives in Tennessee."
"Sister Cate lives in a town called Osceola ___ Arkansas."
I'm not sure what relation William F. had to this group.
I think Hannah was a sibling based on the 1840 census.
I am not sure what Mother's and Papa's first names are.
I don't know Tempy's married name.
I have lots of other bits and pieces that dovetail into a rough picture, but I believe the names of the parents are the key.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? There are several other possible siblings, based on the 1850 census. I have tracked them all down. If you want any more details I'll be glad to talk further with you and any help would be appreciated.
BTW... the under score marks in the info represent illegible spots in the letter.
