Sworn on Jan 22, 1880, Christian Co. Kentucky.Lovey Cox Burris declares she is the widow of one Thomas Burris, deceased, who served in the War of 1812. She states she cannot remember the number of the regiment. Two names of commanders is given, but neither can be read. She states that this information was given to her by Thomas before he died.
Her husband volunteered for the said service at Salisbury, North Carolina, sometime during the summer or fall of 1813, and continued in active service for about 18 months, until the term of service was finished by an honorable discharge at the end of the war.
She gives a description of her husband at the time of his enlistment, as follows: Age 27 years, five feet three inches in height, eyes blue, hair dark, complexion fair, occupation a farmer. His place of birth, she believes, Philadelphia.
She states they were married at Guilford Courthouse, North Carolina, in 1807, the precise date she does not remember due to the infirmity of age; for the same reason she does not remember the name of the clergyman who performed the marriage. Her name before the marriage was Lovey Cox, and she and Thomas lived as man and wife until his death on August 14, 1864, in Anderson County, Tennessee.
