[p.187] BOUNTY CERTIFICATES FOR WILDCAT AND WOLF SCALPS
1787-1789
The certificates abstracted below are from the State Treasurers Receipts at the South
Carolina Archives.State South Carolina, County of Darlington. Bef me one of the Justices sd County Personally
appared before me Wm Burris who being duly sworn saith that on the fifteenth of June last he
causd to be killd by one of his sons under his Jurisdiction a wild Cat & the scalp he produces
me is scalp of sd wild Cat he the sd Wm Burris is therefore intitled to the sum of five shillings
sterling from the publick Treasury of this state Sworn before me this 27th July 1787, Wm
Burris (W-his mark), Robt Ellison, J. P. [The name on the reverse of this certificate is William
Hickman.] Received L 0/5.
