Michelle...Did you ever find anything else about this William Burress/Burriss? I am looking for a William Burriss who, in several census reports, stated that he was born in Virginia about 1787. He died in 1867 in Morgan County, Alabama.

The reason your post caught my attention was not only his name and the state, but also the Clerk who signed the indenture, John Crockett. My William Burriss named his oldest son John Crockett Burriss.

JCB was born in 1810 in Tennessee (we think). His mother is unknown and he named his only son William. The timing of this land sale would fit a possible "sell out" prior to a move on the part of William Burriss.

Any nudge in the direction to the "right" William Burriss would be greatly appreciated. We've been looking for him for 40+ years. Hope to hear from you.
