Hello All,
I found this family, as BURRIS, in the 1850 census in Crawford County, Illinois. The father went by the name William at that time and was listed as 40 years of age. The wife was Mahala, listed as 37 years of age, with the following children:
Elizabeth, age 20
Jonathan 18
Zeb 14
Alvie I or T 13
William 12
Hiraim 9
Thompson 6
Emily 4
Artilissa 11/12
They were living next door to Elijah BURRIS, age 25, married to Polly,age 25 with the following children:
Lavina age 8
Martha 3
Caroline 2/3 (eight months?)
Four houses away was Jesse BURRIS, age 28, married to Anna, age 23, with the following children:
Elizabeth age 7
Margaret 3
Hannah 5/12
All of these men were born in Indiana. I believe Jesse BURRESS/BURRIS is my gg grandfather.
Hopefully there is a connection here.
