Joshua Burress/Burriss, Bertie Co, NC

Is anyone familiar with this line? One biography in a local history printed before the 1930s stated that Joshua Burress/Burriss (b. about 1750 in VA) was descended from Scotch-Irish ancestors "of numerous names," but unfortunately recited none of them! He must have been the son or brother of James Burress/Burriss of Wake CO. & Bertie CO., N.C. Joshua married Sarah Chamblee and moved to Anderson Co., S.C. Their descendants spelled their name Burres(s), Burris(s), Burrus(s), Burrows, and Burroughs. Even siblings buried in the same family plot have different spellings, apparently choosing the spelling most to their liking. The Burress/Burriss clan of S.C. produced huge families. Another bio. in a family history said Joshua Burriss was of English descent.
