Forgive the tardiness of this reply. I changed E-Mail servers after losing most of my hard drive to a rather vicious virus. Regarding Ephraim Burr: My great-great Grandfather was Ephraim Willard Burr. He was an early settler in San Francisco during the gold rush, purchasing abandoned and derelict ships in the harbor for use in construction. An Isaiah Burr, who likely was the great-uncle of Ephriam W. Burr was involved in the early China trade (we have a cup and saucer he brought from China in 1795 on one of the first United States vessels to trade with that nation). Ephraim W. Burr founded the first bank in San Francisco and was named mayor of San Francisco by the Vigilance Committee, which was determined to stamp out crime in the city. He approved the hanging of 22 Sydney Ducks on one occasion, and 8 on another. After two years crime was down and he returned to banking and insurance. Because the name Ephraim is unusual, I can't help but think that Ephraim W. Burr was related somehow to the Ephraim Burr who served as an officer in the Revolutionary War. Just a guess. Best regards. J. Millard Burr, Tucson, AZ
