My grandfather, John BURR, was married to Lydia WILLIAMS
25 December 1862 in Princeton, Colusa County, California
He raised a large family. After Lydia died in 1881 he moved to
San Jose, Santa Clara County, California to be near some of his
sons who had gone there. He and his wife were both buried in
Oak Hill cemetary near San Jose. His grave marker and census
records show he was born in New York 12 August 1839.
Charles Burr Todd in the book BURR FAMILY IN AMERICA
said that John BURR, son of Lyman E. BURR, was born in
Gennessee County, New York in June 1839. Todd also said
that John BURR went into the Union Army after his mother’s
death in 1859 and died in camp. I cannot confirm the story of
his army experience. Todd was right near the end of his BURR
research, and may not have checked very carefully about John.
I believe that John went west to California and was the same
person as my grandfather.
Can anyne shed light on this subject, or identify the parents of
Lydia WILLIAMS?
