BURPEE/COREY, NB Canada 1860s?

My wife's maiden name is Corey. Her grandfather was Burpee Ira Corey 1882-1959, who married Mabel McAllister 1888-1945. We suspect his first name was his mother's maiden name, BURPEE. Know nothing else of this line except family say they came out of St John NB area and probably arrived as United Empire Loyalists from US c 1790. Can anyone shed light on this line?
