Ambrose Burnside, although born in Indiana, married Mary Richmond of Providence Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Nathaniel Bishop.
There were no children to this marriage.

Burnside was briefly engaged to Charlotte "Lottie" Moon of Oxford Ohio. When the minister asked is she took this man to be her husband she replied "No siree Bob, " and left him at the alter. Lottie Moon and her sister were later charged with spying for the South durring the Civil War. General Burnside came to their aid and rescue.
