Don't know what happened to the response I was just typing, but I'll try again.
According to the data I have , much of which was given to me by grand parents, aunts and cousins, John Burnside b. 1760,d.1820, m. Delilah Sheffield b. 1764, parents William Sheffield,Sr. Elizabeth ? had the following children:
1. Elizabeth b.abt.1785,Ga.?,
2. John b. 1788/89 (61-1850) of Bulloch Co., Ga., m.Elizabeth Shuman, 9 Jun 1813.
3. Pollie b. abt. 1790, Ga. m. William Slater.
4. William b. abt 1795/99,Ga., m. Nancy Newman? (my ancesters).
5. Edmund b. abt. 1798, m. Susan??
6. James M. b.abt. 1803, Bryan? Co., Ga., m.Mary Dukes 1827?, dau. of John Dukes.
7. Cynthia b. abt. 1805,Bryan? Co., Ga., m. Richard Harvey,1823,Bryan Co., Ga.
8. Nancy b. abt 1808, Bryan or Chatham Co., Ga. m. James Griffin.
The fact that James M. Burnside and his wife Mary Dukes had a child Elizabeth and one named Gideon, suggests that your Mary Burnside married to Gadi Strickland may be the daughter of John Burnside and Delilah Sheffield. I don't have any data about the husband of Mary Burnside, dau. of John Burnside and Delilah Sheffield. If you reach the conclusion that this Mary and your Mary are one and the same due to concrete evidence I would appreciate having your references.
I do have more collateral family data if it can be useful to you.
