This is not the James Burnside who was the father of Edgehill Burnside b 1790. Edgehill's father James was born ca 1754 Lunenburg co Va, as his grandfather James Burnside was livng in Lundenburg Co Va with his wife Martha Rodgers and children. In 1755 he was named as Co-executor of his father-in-law's Will, Andrew Rodgers, which was proved in 1755 Lunenburg Co Va. In the 1760's the area became Charlotte Co Va where he lived until he moved to that part of SC that was to become Laurens District SC.

I think this James was born ca 1726/27, son of Robert Burnside (ca1700-1742)d. Augusta Co Va and Esther Mayes. Rachel was mentioned in the Will of Esther's second husband, Archibald Clendenning proved ca 1748/49.
