Dear Rob ,
In return to your e-mail the name Burnside is of highland origin and also is related to the borders. The coat of arms is black, charged with a chevron of gold, between three boars heads lying fesseways.Aparantly this is appropriate for a surname found in both the highalnds and the borders.I can also tell you that the name actually originates from Brittany and from there went to Ireland and then Scotland so you could say that we have been around. I am sorry I cannot help you further.
