This was a confusing time in history for the Alexander Burnsides. According to my genealogy, my great-great-great grandfather, Alexander was born in the Monroe Co., VA area and married first, Julianna Woodrum and second, Margaret Garner. He had about 15 children with these wives. Then there was Alexander Burnside b. 1778 in Augusta who married Elizabeth Gilliland. They also had several children close to the same years as the aforementioned Alexander. In fact, the names of many of these children match, also, though their birth dates do not. I have John Burnside and Mary Walker listed as my Alexander's parents and you have them listed as yours. This has been a point of confusion for me for years and I have not been able to fully resolve it in my mind. I would love to have this resolved, so if anyone has any information on this, please let me know. Thanks, Tara.
