Hi, in researching information provided by your grandmother, I would suggest that you check other states than SC for a Madison Co, as the birth place of your earliest listed ancestor Robert Burnside b 1754 as SC does not have a Madison Co. In 1754 I think SC had only 3 counties- Berkley, Craven and Granville. I have researched in SC and so far have not located a single Robert Burnside in any SC records prior to 1800.
There is a Madison Co in NC but it was formed in 1851. There is a Madison Co Ky formed in 1786. There was Walter, John and Robert Burnside born in Lancaster Co Pa, all three served in the Revolutionary War from NC and later moved to Ky and points west, but only John and Robert lived long enough to collect a pension. From the family names that you have it sounds like your line may be related to this group.
