I know so well what you are talking about. But it is all in what you are looking for. When I started my search for my childrens Burns family in 2002, I only knew their father and grandfather and a name [ john Burns] for a great great grandfather. Now I can truthfully say that I know more about their part of the Burns family than anyone else around.
I first found a cousin in law, who like me, was looking for her childrens heritage.Together we have slowly made tiny steps of progress.
WE found that their great great grandfather had a brother that even their fathers and grandmothers did not know about.Wehave met his children online, surviveing ones that is, over 70, and they are great people. We have met their children and grandchildren who knew nothing about our side of the family. We have met cousins that our childrens fathers never knew, and found ones that they knew as a child and wondered what had happened to them over the last 50 years. We have been visited by long lost cousins who were thrilled to be found.
I have found children of deseased family that wanted to know their family but being raised by unrelated family had lost touch.
So very many good things have happened, that even if I never find my childrens great great great grandparents Burns, I have found other family and connections just as important. Their Frederick's and Robertson and other connections are clearer and closer.
Never give up, take a break. Then come back fresh and refreshed. You will make progress.Broaden your horizons, and look around.Rita
