I am working on my family, and pretty well have it back to John Burns at Rocky Creek cemetery in Franklin Co. Pa. The weakest and most confusing link is John Burns b abt1740 d abt1782 in South Carolina. In Laird (1716)Burn's(son of RkySpr John) will 1770 Craven Provence SC Laird refers to his sons John,James, and 14yr old Leard(lard) burns. No John "W". Very reputable sources (Claude Davis) tells us that John's widow Mary and his brother James Burns settled John's estate in 1782 in Camden district(old craven?)SC. and list sons Laird 1774 and John 1775(my ancestor).Where is the document? To me the fact that 1740John has named a son laird gives creddence that he is 1716Laird Burns' son."Laird,Lard,Leard" seem to reoccur constantly. (; Did 1740John Burns serve/die in the Revolutionary War.I found several John Burns in a local militia (CaptBen Tutt SC) ,one was killed. any of these 1740John? Did his widow Mary get a pension ? Where is it recorded. I see 1740John Burns (son of 1716Laird Burns) refered to as John W Burns. Where does the "W" come from? If he really is John W, I would like to correct my records. Same with 1740John's and Margeret McFadden's son 1800John Burns. I've never found a census or record with John W Burns. I would appreciate any help anyone can give to clear 1740John Burns up and find out what we really know and don't know. We are planning a trip this coming year and I would like to stop a couple days in SC and try to find some of these old documents. Whatever I find I will gladly share with this forum. Any ideas what documents might be available and where to find them ?? Best to all Dave. Notify Administrator about this message?
