There long have been two schools of thought as to who was the wife of 17th century John Burnham of Hartford, Connecticut, the son of the immigrant Thomas. His second wife, whom he probably married about 1684, has been claimed to be both Mary Olcott and a Mary Catlin born in 1666. This has been of interest to the Churchills because of an ongoing dispute as to whether the wife of 2nd generation Joseph Churchill of Wethersfield, Connecticut, was a Mary Catlin born in 1649 or a Mary Towsey.
If John Burnham did not marry Mary Catlin of 1666 as his second wife, then he had to have married Mary Catlin of 1649 as his first wife, because he is known to have married a Mary Catlin.
It has now been conclusively demonstrated that John Burnham married Mary Catlin as his second wife. I had long supported Mary Olcott as the second wife, and my acknowledgement that the wife was Mary Catlin rather than Mary Olcottt is in posting 2615 in the Churchill Forum. Previous postings by Dennis Churchill lay out the evidence for the Mary Catlin of 1666 as John Burnham's second wife. The key piece of evidence, in the form of a Quit Claim Deed, appears irrefutable.
