I stem from a Joseph Burnett b. Abt. 1743 who married one Mabel Melton of Bedford Co., Virginia, and who served in the Revolutionary War. In various places on the internet I have seen him associated with Jeremiah Burnett sp. Mary McDaniel, but I also have seen a Joseph Burnett from Buckingham Co., VA, who went to Knox Co., TN who was also associated with Jeremiah Burnett. Much of the information about the Joseph Burnett who went to Knox Co. TN comes from information by June Baldwin Bork, but she also notes that Jeremiah Burnett Served in the revolutionary War in Capt. William Campbell's Company, and that he Enlisted in Bedford Co., VA under Capt. Williamn Campbell. It is interesting to note that the my ancestor Joseph Burnett Enlisted in Bedford Co., VA and He was a Revolutionary War soldier, Battle of Brandywine under Capt. John Childs, served 18 months, Infantry Continental Line, Pvt. According to Revolutionary war pension requests Mabel Melton in 1850 was able to get the following: 1850 May 4 John P. Nichols resident of Bedford Co., VA signed affidavit for Mabel's pension application indicating his knowledge of the Joseph and Mabel Burnett family and conversations with Joseph regarding Rev. War (children listed as Absalom, Anna, Lucy although indicates there may be more). Other information on their marriage and his service are that Mabel Melton married Joseph Burnett c1774 at New London (present Campbell Co VA) in a ceremony by a minister of the Church of England, per her Revolutionary War Widow's pension file: she received a widow's pension of $60 per annum from Mar1831 to Oct1845. Joseph died in 1787. I am looking for an opinion on this information as well as any more information.
