1932 - Doloris Minnie Burmeister - 2005

Doloris Minnie Burmeister was born during the depression in the area known as Goosetown in New Ulm, Minnesota on March 21, 1932, to Alvin Kiecker and Hildegard Prokosch. Shortly thereafter her family moved to Fairfax, Minnesota, where they lived on the family farm, along with her grandparents and her uncle and his family. There, they all farmed 340 acres, had cattle, hogs, and a large garden. She had many happy years while she attended St. John Evangelical Lutheran School in Fairfax, from grades one to eight. She graduated from Fairfax Public School in 1950. After graduation she moved to New Ulm, where she worked at JC Penney. In 1956, she moved to Hopkins, Minnesota. She met Wayne Burmeister while working at JC Penney in Knollwood Plaza in 1957, and married him at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church on November 23, 1958. In 1963, Doloris and Wayne moved to Slayton, Minnesota, where they owned and operated a clothing store, Wayne’s Hub Department Store. During the course of their careers as merchants, Doloris and Wayne also operated fabric stores (Hub Fabrics) in Litchfield, Minnesota and in Marshall, Minnesota. They were the proud parents of a daughter, Lynn. In addition to her work, Doloris loved vegetable gardening. She and Wayne planted hundreds of trees of all kinds in the Northeast corner of their property, converting a cornfield to their own north woods. In January, 2001, Doloris suffered a stroke which left her wheelchair bound and speech impaired for the remainder of her life. In her later years Doloris remained content at home, enjoying watching golf on TV and spending time with her family. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 25, 2005, at her daughter’s home in Minneapolis at the age of 73.

Blessed be her memory.
