Daniel, We are all well here in NC. The Shipman family has a documented connection to the desendants of Aaron that left a will in 1782 Washington Co. NC, better known as Aaron II. I will use the II designation to separate the many Aarons but the II is a modern addition and no one has proven who his father was. By simply placing a II beside the name they have "FIT" their line into a "Traditional Story" told by Dr. Rufus Burleson in 1886 that even he did not try to offer any proof or evidence. I welcome any correction to my statement by all the Burleson Researchers ,with that said we still have not identified Aaron I. Daniel ,your work , if I understand it correctly, identifys the Aaron in the 1746 Lunenburg VA land Grant as Aaron I. You may well be right, with my lack of research of the northern branch, I certianly would not argue. My point is that " Tradition " says AaronI came from Wales. There is abosultly no proof. Where AaronI went to after selling the 1746 Grant, there is no proof. When did he die, there is no proof. What was the names of his children if any, there is no proof. Did he look for his brother Sir Edward ? That one has been proved wrong. I think we can all agree that there seems to be a Cottage Industry on the web, that we can find at least a dozen anwsers to every one of the above guestions and they will all be differant. example; google "Aaron Burleson" and you will find dozens of birth places, exact date, month and year. You will find the names of his five or six or even seven sons that died in the American Revolutionary War. Pick any or all of these names of sons and show me document that says that Burleson man was killed or wounded or ever a member of any militia, army or a navy. What is really strange , the same people from Dr. Rufus to today , that list Aaron II as a son of Aaron I, does not list Aaron II as one of the sons that died during the war, they list him as a sevivor of the war. Aaron II may or may not be a son of Aaron I but he most assuraly was killed in action against the Indians in 1782 per probate date of his will. That makes Aaron II a casulity of the war.The Cherokees were very much a part of the British forces in NC. Many has names for Aaron I daugthers, there is no proof. the "Cottage Industry" can give you the place of birth ,dates, marriages any thing you are looking for except documentation. Some list daugthers as Elizabeth married Daniel Shipman, some say Elizabeth married Abraham Kuykendall. There is no proof of either maiden name. The Gages are listed as marrying daugthers, there is no proof. I see dates and place of marriage for Frances Burleson to John Bugg, but I have never seen the document. Too many "no proof" Too much Tradition, Aaron I is still a Phantom to me. What I do know is there was an Aaron in the 1749 Lunenburg Grant and there was an Aaron in GA 1757, there was an Aaron on Dunham Creek ,Cumberland Co NC 1761, there was an Aaron on Richardson Creek Anson Co. 1763. There was an Aaron on the Flat Fork Branch of Brown cr. Anson Co. in 1777. I have a good guess who all of these Aarons were, but I have "NO PROOF." All of them could be the Phantom.
