William K Burgess son of Mathias and Millison
Hello
I am seeking information on a Mathias Burgess who married Millison. Their son William K. was born in Ulster County New York. He died in Michigan. From his obit, I know William was married twice. I do not know the name of his first wife. I know he married second to Hannah Perkins and I know the name of the two sons he had with her.
Below is William's obit:
“Burgess—In Dansville, Ingham county, Saturday, September 16 1882, of inflammation of the lungs, William K Burgess, of Norvell aged 89 years.
The deceased was born in Ulster county, N.Y. September 21st 1793, was a solider in the war of 1812, from which he received an honorable discharge and was a pensioner at the time of his death. He was discharged from the service at Harlem heights, now city of New York, November 30, 1814, after which he married and settled in the city, going to work at his trade as a carpenter. In 1827 he moved to the then newly settled portion of N. Y. State on the line between the counties of Yates and Ontario where he remained until the death of his second wife in ’69, when he came to Jackson county, Michigan, to live with his youngest son, Frank. He was twice married, being the father of seven children by his first wife and two by his second. In July, he went to Dansville, Ingham county, to see his two daughters who resided there, and was taken sick with inflammation of the lungs and died September 16, 1892, after an illness of ten days. His remains were brought to Norvell for internment. The funeral was held at the church in Norvell at 10:30 o’clock Sunday morning, and a large concourse of friends were in attendance, and followed the remains to their last resting place. Uncle Burgess was a man universally beloved. He was, even to the end, exceedingly industrious and possessing a high moral character, being strictly honest, wronging no man he was eminently respected by all, and though he lived to a ripe old age, yet he will be greatly missed. His relatives, especially his son Frank’s family have the sympathy of the whole community. Obit—Thursday 21 Sep 1882—The Manchester Enterprise”
Williams death record lists his parents as Mathias and Millison.
My husband descends from William and unknown first wife through his daughter Mary Burgess who married Isaac Hounson (have lots on them).
I found a Mathias Burgess in the 1800 census in Marlborough, Ulster County, New York. If anyone knows anything about Mathias and Millison, please let me know.
Thanks in advance
