BURGESS, Dirk Norman Born
BURGESS, Dirk Norman Born: May 23, 1930 Died: May 12, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dirk Norman Burgess on May 12, 2009. He passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital with his family by his side. Dirk was born Dirk Burgersdijk in the Hague Netherlands. He came to Canada in 1953 as a musician in the Royal Canadian Regimental Band. In 1956 while stationed in Winnipeg, he met and married El Marie Van Norman and changed the family name to Burgess after the birth of their third child. Dirk is predeceased by El Marie, his loving wife of 45 years, his parents and his brother Frank Burgersdijk. He is survived by his three daughters, Wendy Burgess (Alan Shrubb), Deborah Lafleur (Ray) and Caroline Nixon (Doug) and grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Daniel, and Dirk. The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Koss and the nursing staff at Kelowna General Hospital for making his final journey comfortable. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Prayer Chapel at the Evangel Tabernacle, 3261 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, BC with Reverend Don McMillan officiating.
