Hi, Pat and all
We had wondered before if/where the surname "Foster" fit into the Burgess and Easterwood families. For creative genealogy, "Foster" appears to be the surname of the spouse of Martha (Easterwood) Burgess's youngest daughter Martha.
Page 557A of the 1880 Pickens Co, AL, Beards Dist, Census includes the following Foster/Burgess/Easterwood household:
"M. A. Foster, self, widow, female, white, 40, b. AL, keeping house, father b. SC, mother b. SC
M. A. Foster, daughter, single, female, white, 8, b. AL, father b. SC, mother b. AL
Martha Burgess, other, married, female, white, 82, b. SC, farmer, father b. SC, mother b. SC
M. Easterwood, daughter, female, white, 45, b. AL, keeping house, father b. SC, mother b. SC
Nettie Easterwood, grand daughter, single, female, white, 5, b. AL, father b. AL, mother b. AL"
In this household, Martha (Easterwood) Burgess [b. 29 Sep 1798 Union Co, SC, d. 9 Mar 1881 Pickens Co, AL] wife of William Burgess [b. 1798 SC, d. 1861 Pickens Co, AL] appears to live with her daughters Martha A. (Burgess) Foster [b. 1841] and Mary (Burgess) Easterwood [b. 1836] and her grand daughter by Nettie Easterwood.Since M. A. Foster (age 40) is listed as widow, we need to look at the 1860 and 1870 Censuses to find his given names. Also, we need to know the given names of the Easterwood spouse of Mary (Burgess) Easterwood.
Let me know what everyone thinks...Robert
