Audrey,
Another researcher I have been working with believes that your Benjamin was the son of Benjamin Burgess who was a cousin to Jonathan. She doubts that Benjamin was a son of Jonathan and Mary [Collins] Burgess.
You should check the Cemetery Record for North St. Cemetery in Auburn. There is a Benjamin Burgess who died in June 1863 at nearly 85 years of age. His wife was Rebecca [Chapin] and she and a daughter are buried there also. Benjamin Shepard Burgess and Rebecca married in 1802 per the Burgess Genealogy by Katherine W. Hiam.
This Benjamin [born in 1779] was Benjamin Shepard Burgess and was the son Joseph Burgess and Thankful Snow; Joseph was the brother to Seth Burgess [Jonathan's brother]
As I have told you, Benjamin was only tentatively penciled in as a possible child of Jonathan and Mary Collins. I have absolutely no proof of a Benjamin being born to Jonathan and Mary -- only a male child, unidentified by name, as a possible match [and most of Jonathan and Mary's children are not yet known by name]
I urge you to check out Benjamin Shepard Burgesses family as he and Rebecca had a large family.
