I believe the family of Lowell J Burditt with a son Mordicai may be the one you are searching for. Lowell was born in 1825 in Vt., in 1873 lived in Green Garden ILL, in the 1880 census is listed in IND, and by 1884 had moved to Calhoun Co. IA and purchased land there. Lowell and his wife, Amanda Warren, had 6 children - Emily (1849 VT), Mordacai (1851 VT), Lucinda (1864 IL), Ida (1866 IL), Luella (1869 IL) and Merrill (1872 IL). I have found Mort in the 1880 census in Jefferson, Newton, IN, showing Hettie, son Loel born in IN. Lowell J d 4/24/1914 and Amanda d 12/31/1900. Both are buried in the cemetery at Fonda, Iowa. Also buried there is Merrill (d. 1937) and his wife Elizabeth (d. 1962). There is also a Guy Burditt and his two wives, but I am not sure how they are related.

My mother is a Burditt, her family coming from Kentucky and settling in NE Missouri. In doing research I found this group of Iowa Burditts living in Fonda, IA, both in Pocahontas and Calhoun Counties, Iowa. I have looked into them a bit, not because I think they are related, but because I happen to live about 30 miles from Fonda. Isn't that ironic.

If you think this could be the same Mort that you are looking for, let me know and I'll see what other info I can come up with. I feel sure Mort was a Justice of the Peace here as he is listed as such on Merrill's marriage certificate. Please contact me if you wish.
