Hi all,

Can anyone tell me about the short marriage of Eldon Stanbrough of Bixby, OK-age 23 yrs, and my gr-gr-aunt, Ella "Wynona" Burdette, of Tulsa, OK-age 18 yrs (she was born in 1914)? I only know they married Jan. 28, 1932 in Cushing, Payne Co., OK by judge Henry W. Hall (?). Witnesses were her brother A. M. Burdette and his wife Mrs. A. M. Burdette (A. M. being my gr-grandfather, Aaron Miller Burdette and one of his wives).

In 1930 "Wynona" met one "Dapper" Harry Campbell (b. New Year's 1900 in PA and released from jail to OK, where his family later moved to--his pals were the Barker brothers in OK), a later known member of the Barker-Karpis gang (she would have been abt. 16 yrs old). He left for Wyoming to rob banks and was then back with Wynona again in 1933--then he went off to join the gang and later sent for Wynona to join him. So, the marriage to Eldon Stanbrough was in between/during her early relationship with Campbell.

From Wynona's association with the Barker-Karpis gang and Campbell she was sentenced from Florida, in 1935, along with the wife of George "Machine Gun" Kelly and Dolores Delaney, to do 5 years in a federal prison in Milan, MI for her part in the St. Paul, MN kidnapping of one Edward Bremmer, that they held for $200,000 in randsom. She and Harry Campbell had left Fred and Ma Barker's home in Florida, just 8 short days, before the shoot out that killed Fred and Ma, only later to be captured with Alvin Karpis' girlfriend, Dolores Delaney, in Atlantic City, during another gun fight with police, where Alvin Karpis and Harry Campbell made there escape, when they saw they could not get to their women, as they police had already found them.

So, when did Wynona and Eldon divorce? Did they divorce? And if so, who divorced whom and in what state? We cannot find a record of divorce. We do know that "Aunt Nonie" was driven out of Oklahoma, after her release from prison, by her bother Art Burdette (or so the family stories go) to CA. We know that she married or lived with a Charles Conley in California and that she died in April 1973 there, but, haven't found a record of this nor where she is buried.

So, if anyone out there can help us find this divorce record for Eldon Stanbrough and Wynona Burdette, we'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Li Sullins
