I'm searching for dates or other information about certain ancestors in the Burdett family. Maybe someone can help. Stephen Burdett of LaRochelle, France had three children; Francis, Stephen, Hugh. My line is through Stephen. (Francis, who became Sir Francis, was known as the 'great poor man of London', but I don't know why, was the grandfather of Angela Georgina Burdette, who became Baroness Burdette Coutts.) Stephen Burdett emigrated to New York, arriving in Staten Island around 1650 and practised medecine in New York. He was married to Margaret Freeland and they had two sons Stephen and Samuel. Stephen married Hannah Earl and they had nine children; Stephen, Peter, John Pinhorne, Benjamin, Lewis, Oliver,Hester, Edward DeYoung and Polly. My line comes through John Pinhorne, who was born, apparently, on Staten Island, married Nancy Meyers and with her had ten children; Benjamin, John, Stephen, Mary Ann, Margaret, David Day, Hannah, James, Oliver and Rachel. John Pinhorne moved to Demorestville, near Kingston, Ontario, Canada as a United Empire Loyalist. David Day (1794-1863) is my ancestor and I have the line fairly well from then on and would be happy to pass on what I know if anyone is interested in the Canadian Burdetts. Although all three of David Day's grandsons (sons of Alexander) moved back to the United States (Daniel Byron and William James to Chicago, Leo Canute to Hollywood). The name has been spelled Burdette and Bourdett. Anson McKim
