Walter Burd was my maternal grandfather. He died in Victoria BC in 1939 preceded by his first wife Elizabeth Millington. Children, Helen (my mother) and Fred are alive but Oliver died in 1947 in Antartica as part of the British Meterological Expedition. Walter''s father was Braham Burd who married Sarah Ellen Gregory and was school teacher for the British Army. His brother, Frederick Braham was in the 13th London Regiment and was killed in 1917. He had 6 brothers and sisters: Arthur, John, Florence, Henry and Fred. My uncle Fred has done a lot of research which might help. I would be interesting to know the connection to your family in New Zealand!
