Burchett Family Genealogy Forum

I was very excited to read your response regarding the English/American Family Connection. I am African American, and am looking for information on the history of the African American Birchett name (and any variations of the spelling) -- there appear to be many, and, based on various comments in the Genealogy Forum, can be traced all the way back to a "Bouchett" spelling in France. I have traced our roots, so far, back to Virginia -- Prince George county. Apparently there were five small Birchett plantations, and on each one, there were between 5-8 slaves. Apparently some of this is recorded in the 1850 census, but I have not located it yet. I would love to get the name of the genealogy book you mentioned in your response. Perhaps it is a book that is available through interlibrary loan, or I might be able to get it through Ann Arbor Microfilms. Does your book have any infromation about the slaves of any of the Birchett plantation owners? Apparently an Edward Birchett, who lived in Prince George County as early as 1715, owned Native American slaves and gave them to James Thweatt in exchange for his care (I learned this from e-mail - Max Keller, emoss@erols.com. If you have any additional information, please contact me. I am getting very excited about all of this. cbirchett@yahoo.com. Blessings!
