80. Elisha Clark8BURCHETT (John7, John6, Burwell5, Thomas4, Robert3, Edward2, Thomas1) was buried in North Arm Cem., Vancouver, B. C., Canada.62 He was born on 11 Oct 1836 in Lee Co., Va.62 He married Charlotte Marion, daughter of Nelson Marion and Armin Hampton, on 27 Mar 1854 in Hancock Co., Tn.62 He died on 3 Feb 1913 in South Vancouver, B. C., Canada, at age 76.62
Elisha was born on the old Burwell Burchett place, where his brother Wm. M. resided (1913), in Lee Co., Va. He was a Captain of Co. B, 50th Reg., 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division of the Army of Northern Virginia. He was also a member of the XXVI session of the Arkansas Legislature when he lived in Logan Co., Ar. He was also the author of the booklet "Is Heaven Far Away?". He and his wife lived for years at Port Neville, B. C., before moving into town into the house built for them by their son Alex, at the junction of Wales and Westminster roads.[SAR loose material at Glendale, Ca.].
Charlotte MARION was buried in North Arm Cem., Vancouver, B. C., Canada.62 She was born on 24 Dec 1835 in Putnam Co., In.62 She died on 21 Sep 1919 in Vancouver, B. C., Canada, at age 83.62
Known children of Elisha Clark8Burchett and Charlotte Marion were as follows:
127. i. Ruth Jane9 BURCHETT, born 25 Jan 1855 in Hancock Co., Tn; married Daniel Franklin Owens.
ii. Leonidus BURCHETT married Ruth Bartle. He died. He was born on 17 Feb 1858 in Lee Co., Va.62 He married Ella Meadors on 1 Jan 1883 in Scott Co., In.62
iii. Frank Sterling BURCHETT was born in 1859.27
Frank Sterling Burchett was the son of Elisha Clark Burchett and Charlotta Marion Burchett. He was one of six sons, all of whom resembled the Burchetts except Frank, who resembled the Marions, his mother. There were daughters, but the sons seemed to dominate. It seemed that Elisha was jealous of his wife, and there was always a bone of contention between Frank and his father, so Frank was not a favorite son. He left home at an early age, about 16 years old, forced out simply by his father's attitude. He went west, joined the US Army, served a couple of years, then bought his way out. He cared little for what he called the 'Army's poor tactics.'
He went down into the territory of Arizona, where he began to work for Western Union, stringing up telephone poles in wide areas in desolate country. He was in danger most of the time, fighting and running away from Indians. The Cattlemen and the Indians were in conflict. Frank settled on the side of the Cattlemen. In the midst of the fighting, fierce fighting, an Indian drew a gun - Frank was faster and beat him to the draw, thereby killing him. He was the leader of a Mexican group, who chased Frank all over the country before catching him months later. Frank was sent to prison, the Territorial Prison in Yuma Arizona. There he stayed in the barest of comfort until the Cattlemen gained control of the area. Their first act was to have a governor appointed, their own governor appointed by Washington D. C. The Governor's first act was to free Frank from prison. Frank then became the Governor's bodyguard.
The Governor had for his children a governess from Sweden, who was a lesser princess, which means that she was descended from a princess along the line. She is , or was, at that time a beautiful girl.... It did not take them long to notice each other, fall in love and marry, living happily together for ten years, at which time she died of typhoid.
After her death, Frank cared little about life and wandered off to California, ending up with his mother and father in British Columbia, who were living in outlying Knight's Inlet on the ocean near Vancouver. After the death of his parents, Frank returned to Tennessee...prior to his death from cancer.
